What nurses should know about a new policy in 2018

Happy new year!

With the new year starting off, Senior Account Manager Niko Villanueva feels it’s important that all nurses are aware of a revised policy that is being implemented very soon. As of May, 4th 2015, the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) was approved by Board of Nursing executive officers. In the recent year, 2017, new rules were adopted by Nurse Compact Commission. The revised Nurse Licensure Compact allows nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) to have one multi-state license, with the ability to practice in both their home state and other eNLC states. The implementation date for the eNLC is January 19th, 2018.

The National Council of State of Board Nursing (NCSBN) states that current NLC states are enacting state legislation to transition from the original NLC into the eNLC. New states which are not members of the original NLC are also enacting state legislation to become members of the eNLC.

Current States that are part of the eNLC are:

Arizona Missouri Utah
Arkansas Montana Virginia
Delaware Nebraska West Virginia
Florida New Hampshire Wisconsin
Georgia North Carolina Wyoming
Idaho North Dakota
Iowa Oklahoma
Kentucky South Carolina
Maine South Dakota
Maryland Tennessee
Mississippi Texas

This opens a multitude of new job opportunities for nurses! With the enhanced Nurse Licensure nurses can provide care to patients in other eNLC states without having to obtain additional licenses. NCSBN stated that “nurses with the original NLC multi-state license will be grandfathered into the eNLC.”

To find your state’s nurse licensure application you can visit www.NCSBN.org If you haven’t applied for multi-state licensure before, this can get tricky! SkyBridge Resources is happy to help those currently looking for new opportunities outside their given state.
